“An Espresso Martini, Please” The Ultimate Cool Girl Drink

“Show me your drink of choice and I’ll tell you who you are.” Whether you’re reaching for a Jack & Coke or savoring a sophisticated Dirty Martini, your favorite drink can reveal a lot about your personality and tastes.

*My interpretation of who you are based on your drink of choice*

“May I have a Jack and Coke?” You’re either on a budget or just looking to get tipsy quickly. No judgment here—we’ve all been there.

“May I have a Dirty Martini?” You have a mature palate and appreciate the finer things in life, even if that includes a drink that reminds you of seawater (but seriously, who enjoys the taste of salt water!?).

“May I have a Piña Colada?” You might be underage or just old enough to drink, gravitating towards the sweetest option to mask the strong taste of alcohol.

“May I have [liquor of choice] on the Rocks?” Think tequila, bourbon, whiskey, gin. You know your liquor well and enjoy the way it helps you unwind. Additionally, you may be mindful of your calorie intake.

“May I have a Margarita?” The go-to drink for celebrating, whether it’s a bachelorette party or a fun brunch with friends. I will call it America’s favorite drink.

But there is one drink that I believe to be the ultimate ‘IT’ drink. Just like the person who drinks it, this cocktail is sweet yet potent, bold yet smooth, rich yet fun. It’s simply exquisite.

The espresso martini is the perfect companion for the modern, busy girl who needs a caffeine boost after a productive day. Its versatility makes it an ideal drink for any time of day or season.

In honor of this ultimate cool girl drink, let me show you how to make the best espresso martini you’ll ever have. And shoutout to my fiancé, who makes the best espresso martinis I have ever tried…

2oz vodka

1oz freshly brewed espresso

1/2oz Kahlua coffee liqueur

1/2 simple syrup

1/2 Handful of Ice

3 Coffee beans (for garnish)

Optional: Chocolate bitters
1. Brew a shot of espresso and set aside to let it cool

2. Fill in your favorite shaker with ice. Add the vodka, espresso shot, coffee liqueur, and simple syrup

3. Shake (really hard) for about 20 seconds. This should make the drink chilled and frothy

4. Strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass

5. Garnish with 3 espresso beans and chocolate bitters on top

How to Guarantee Your Espresso Martini is the Best You’ve Ever Had

The key to taking this espresso martini from good to great lies in the quality of the coffee and the shaking technique.

Coffee Machine: At home, I have the advantage of an espresso machine, which allows me to make fresh and creamy espresso every time, unlike regular coffee.

Strong Arms: Another advantage is having a strong man at home who can shake the shaker endlessly and vigorously. This makes the martini extra frothy and smooth.

Coffee Liqueurs: I recommend choosing Kahlua over other coffee liqueurs. I’ve tried quite a few different options, but nothing complements the martini as well as Kahlua does.
